Blueberry Cobbler Smoothie

I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this recipe. It’s just so good. I started out planning to share my blueberry-banana smoothie recipe, but it just sounded kind of blah and unoriginal. It’s delicious, but I know you don’t need any help from me to make one. So, I stood in front of my spice rack, spinning it back and forth. Cinnamon? Nutmeg? Hmmm…sounds odd in a smoothie, but that’s what I’d use in a blueberry cobbler. For some reassurance, I flipped open my new favorite book, The Flavor Bible. I quickly found the blueberry page and my thoughts were confirmed right there in black and white. Cinnamon and nutmeg really do go well with blueberries, in fact, one chef mentions that cinnamon actually intensifies the flavor of the blueberry. One sip is really all you need to get it. It really is exactly like a blueberry cobbler…in a glass.

We are (self-proclaimed) smoothie aficionados in my house. We make a lot of them, but the thing is…it usually resembles a comedy act. Run the blender, turn it off. Shake the blender, run the blender. Run the blender and shake the blender. Turn it off. Stir it up. Run the blender and stir it up. Lose a spoon. You know what I’m talking about. Sigh. One of these days, I’ll need to upgrade to a proper blender. In the meantime…I think the consistency of this smoothie is perfect and the proportions are just right to create a thick and rich texture, but not so thick that you’ll have a replay of the above nonsense.

Sorry, Pattie. I just added that info to the recipe now. It will make one large smoothie or two smaller portions. Personally, I tend to drink the whole thing myself! ;)

I made this with fresh blueberries, frozen banana, a little extra lemon juice, milled chia seeds instead of flax and agave nectar. It’s delicious! It really does taste like cobbler!

This was very yummy. I usually add protein powder to my smoothies in the morning, but I made this as the recipe directed. I did find a lump in honey in the bottom of my glass. Not sure why it didn’t blend better. Thanks!

I’m so glad you liked this, Angela! So glad it works well with your protein powder. I’m not sure why your honey didn’t blend in. That’s unusual. Maybe blend a bit longer and see if that helps. Thanks so much for letting me know!

Just tried this out but subbed blackberries for the blueberries and a little lime instead of lemon and it was yumm! Whole family enjoyed it. :)

I saw this on Pinterest yesterday and I can’t wait to try it! I’ve made a cran-raspberry smoothie with cinnamon before and my tastebuds were so happy. It adds such a nice complexity!

Have you added spinach to this recipe to make it a green smoothie?

Hi Pamela! I’ve never tried adding spinach to this one, but I will say, I’ve added it to most of my smoothies and it goes pretty much undetected! Spinach’s flavor is so mild, it’s usually overpowered by all of the other flavors. If you give it a try, let me know how you like it! You’ve sparked my interest…I may whip one up tomorrow morning! :D
